Rooting Procedure:
Step One: Ensure that you're working with the HTC One (E8) running Android 4.4.2 KitKat and your device is fully charged. Backup all your phone's data as unlocking the bootloader will wipe your device's memory. Check that HTC Sync is installed so you have the latest HTC phone drivers.
Step Two: Unlock the bootloader on your HTC One (E8) manually on the HTCDev website. Install a custom recovery like ClockworkMod or TRWP Recovery on your HTC One (E8) device.
Step Three: Download SuperSU Root (UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip) for the HTC One (E8) to your computer. Connect your smartphone to your computer via USB cable. Copy and past the UPDATE-SuperSU-v.02.zip file to your SD card, making sure the file goes to SD card and not to another folder.
Step Four: Turn off your phone and disconnect from USB cable. Boot your HTC One (E8) into recovery mode by pressing and holding the Volume Up and Power keys at the same time. In recovery mode, scroll down to "flash zip from SD card" and press Power button to select it.
Step Five: Press Power button again and select "choose zip from SD card". Using the volume keys, go to the UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip file that you copied to your SD card and select it using the Power button. Confirm installation on next screen.
Step Six: When the installation is complete, go to main recovery menu and reboot phone by selecting "reboot system now". After your HTC One (E8) reboots, you should see the SuperSU app in your apps list, confirming that you now have root access on your device.
