How to root Motorola Moto-X
The original Moto X had a utilitarian design. With the curved back and rounded edges, it worked really well and allowed a user to hold and use the phone in a way that was very comfortable. The new Moto X uses the same design. But this time, Motorola has polished it a bit and given it some touches that make the phone look and feel like a premium device. An AMOLED screen and has a 1080 x 1920 pixels aka the FullHD resolution. The AMOLED panels are really good at showing punchy and vibrant colours and we see the same on the new Moto X. Colours look really pleasing on it. The high resolution also makes it quite sharp and even while attempting pixel-peep, we did not see jagged edges in text that the phone displays.
Motorola, since it was acquired by Google, is a company that believes in KISS -- Keep it simple stupid. The result is that it puts an almost unmodified version of Android in its phones. In this way, the Moto phones have almost the same user interface that Google's Nexus phones have.
Things to do before starting the rooting procedure:
1. Backup your phone.
2. Battery must be 70% charged.
Rooting Procedure:
1. Unlock your bootloader.
2. If your phone is turned on, power it off. After it is powered completely off, hold Volume Down and Power for about 5-10 seconds. Release them, and you should see the bootloader screen. It says "AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S)" at the top.
3. Plug your phone into your computer. If Windows installs any more drivers, just let it finish.
4. Download the TWRP recovery from the link found here.
5. Put the img file in the folder with your fastboot.exe file.
6. Open a command window and type this, then hit Enter:
7. On your phone, use Volume Down to scroll down to Recovery, and hit Volume Up to select it. The phone will reboot into Recovery. You should see something that looks like this (the version number at the top will be different).
8. Hit Reboot, and then System. The phone will reboot back into Android.
9. Download SuperSU to your phone.
10. Reboot to Recovery by following step 2, then step 7.
11. Hit Install, then find the SuperSU zip you downloaded, and select it. Confirm the install, and wait for it to finish. Reboot to system.
12. You should now have root. You can check this with a root check app or something that requires root.
